Lichfield Road / Farewell Lane Proposal Plans

Proposed plans for the area near Farewell Lane and Lichfield Road can be seen below. We mentioned these earlier but you can now see the proposals for yourself. This is Green Belt land and 377 houses are shown with two entrances feeding each half of the estate. Given the design of current estates it may also include three-story high homes. To get the larger size and see the plans up-close, click here or on the picture below, then use your zoom function in the browser…

Who we are

We are a group of concerned residents who have come together to help fight against proposed development on Green Belt land. Many residents may not be aware of the New Local Development Framework, however you can look at the preferred options that have been chosen in this PDF document (you may need to download the free Adobe Reader to view this document). You can comment on this using this online consultation page or by calling 01543 308192. You can also email the District Council on developmentplans@lichfielddc.gov.uk.

The “Preferred Option” of Lichfield District Council’s Core Strategy in the Local Development Framework proposes the building of 750 new homes on green belt land on the south and south east edges of Burntwood. This development to be in addition to 220 new homes in infill brownfield sites.

Of the 4 options which we understand to have been considered prior to choosing the Preferred Option, the one which proposed a new settlement on mainly brownfield land near Fradley we consider a much more worthy option. It would not require the destruction of green belt land either in Burntwood or Lichfield.

Recently we also became aware of an application to build 377 houses on 16.4ha of farm land fronting Lichfield Road and Farewell Lane, Burntwood. You can see the area which would be affected in the images below, or click here to look at the area with Google Maps. If you would like to protest against this development, just download our letter and post it off to the address supplied.  Farewell Lane is the definitive eastern boundary of Burntwood and we see no reason why this should be breached. Any consideration by Lichfield District Council of the late proposal by the local landowner to build 377 new homes to the east of that boundary would be both premature and prejudicial to the Core Strategy.
